Sheraton One Wall Centre
Vertical Grain Fir Doors CD200
Rising high into the Pacific Northwest air of downtown Vancouver, above the restaurants, galleries and energetic bustle of the city center, One Wall Centre punctuates the picturesque Vancouver skyline. And to match the exquisite design of the 48-story tower that combines residential space with the Sheraton Hotel One Wall Centre comes the need for modern architecture, including the vertical grain fir doors provided by Lynden Door for the Sheraton.
A short jaunt to businesses and entertainment options, including popular boutiques on Robson Street, Yaletown restaurants and even the artistic Granville Island and famed Stanley Park, the central location of the 733-room Sheraton attracts a variety of visitors with a mixture of interests and expectations. The One Wall Centre, though, aims to meet them all by producing a truly Pacific Northwest design full of warm materials, natural light, sustainable design and modern aesthetic.
Everything from a high-performance glazing system to natural ventilation and low-water consumption fixtures to interior finish materials with low embodied energy help make this 462,000 square foot tower designed by Perkins & Will Architects a pillar of sustainability in downtown Vancouver. Lynden Door’ s addition to the project plays a part, both aesthetically and sustainably.
Drawing heavy inspiration from European architecture, the vertical grain on the fir matches the inspiration of one of the tallest buildings in this international city. By clear-coating the doors on all six sides without adding formaldehyde, Lynden Door creates a highly durable door while embracing the beauty of the wood grain, all without adding stress on the sustainability desires of the project.
Situated in Volunteer Square, a public space developed in conjunction with the building to honor the work and legacy of Vancouver’ s volunteer community, One Wall Centre attempts to embody the spirit of Vancouver. Using the architectural styling of Lynden Door’ s vertical grain fir accents that spirit, that Pacific Northwest signature.
Veneers look rich and lustrous with a Lynden Door factory applied transparent urethane finish. A great choice, as it adds durability and seals the door, all six sides. Clear coated doors lend a unique European flair to painted jambs and casings – an eclectic look that works in equally well traditional or modernist decor.
